How does the Custom Made Shoe process work?

Foot Assessment

On your first appointment we will conduct a foot assessment. This will include taking cast molds of your feet to ensure a proper fitting model can be made to the shape of your foot.

It is important that you bring your prescription to this appointment so we can authorize you with AADL.

Fitting Model Try On

After your first appointment we will bring you in for a fitting model try on. On this appointment we will have a fitting model of your shoe ready for you to try on to ensure the final product will fit properly, and to make adjustment to the model as needed.

If not already discussed on the first appointment, you will give input on the design you are looking for with your shoes. Do you prefer boots or shoes? Do you want Velcro or laces? What color or design preferences do you have?

On this appointment we will also inform you of the status of your cost share and collect payment for any portion of the shoe that has not been covered.

Pick Up Appointment

Your shoes will be ready for pick up.

How does the billing process for custom orthopedic shoes work work?

Custom-made orthopedic shoes are covered by the Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) program.

To qualify for AADL coverage, a prescription for custom-made orthopedic shoes is required. This prescription must be obtained from a qualified healthcare provider, such as your doctor.

Depending on your income level, you may or may not be required to pay a cost-share portion for your custom-made shoes. This is determined by AADL and the CRA. This portion can reach a maximum of $500 depending on the level of deformity found in the feet.

You will be charged $56 (before tax) for the initial foot assessment. There is no charge for any other appointments.
